Virginia Ortiz, age 63, of Orlando, Florida, entered into rest peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones on December 13, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born & raised in Brooklyn, New York, on January 24, 1962 & graduated from Clara Barton High Scool in Health Professions in 1980. Caring for others was her passion and career.
Whilst living in the state of Kentucky, Virginia was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel, which is the highest honor from the State Governor in recognizing individuals for their service and accomplishments on behalf of others. This was bestowed upon her due to her outstanding and compassionate nursing care to a WW2 veteran.
She was a dedicated mother to her 5 children & countless others that she took under her wing who became family. She especially loved her role as "Nana" to 8 grand-babies & the grands of her pseudo children. She also adored her beloved dogs Yoshi and Spike as well as her Grand Fur-Baby cat, Hada.
Those left to cherish her memory include her brothers: Jose Marquez, Gilbert Velez & Jaime Velez of North Carolina. Her 4 sons: David Ortiz, his son: Christian, Angel Ortiz & Miguel Ortiz of Orlando, Florida. Benjamin Ortiz & wife Jaime, his 4 children: Michelle, Ben Jr. & William, of South Carolina & his eldest daughter Milye, of Texas. Her only daughter Hope Joy Ortiz-Murphy, her 3 children: Ellen, Eric Jr., & Emilia, of Indiana. Countless family & friends that called her mom. Along with many friends and parishioners of 'The Church In The Son,' where she attended services for a number of years.
Virginia is preceded in death by her father, Ramon Velez, her mother Maximinia Velez, her Brother, Ramon Velez-II & two grand children: Elliott Ortiz-Murphy and Emmanuel Ortiz.
