Sohatree Sattaur Obituary

In Loving Memory of Our Beloved Sohatree Sattaur, also known as Baba Singh (QUEEN BABA)
Sunrise: July 4, 1942
Sunset: June 10, 2025

With deep sorrow and eternal love, we announce the passing of our cherished Mom, Wife, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, lovingly known as Grandma Baba, who left us peacefully on June 10, 2025, at the age of 82.

Baba was born on July 4, 1942, in Georgetown, Guyana, to her loving parents Parbattie Sarwan and Rajo Bhagwandeen. She spent her early years on Station Street in Kitty, Guyana, where she raised her five children—Inal, Nadira, Deodat, Seepaul, and Rajendra—alongside her devoted husband, Surajpaul Singh, who sadly passed away and left her to carry on raising their family with remarkable strength and grace. Baba was also sister to Tarzan and Beto, who passed away many years ago, and her surviving sister, Baby.

Baba first visited England and lived there from 1987 to 1994, after which she moved to the United States of America. She made her home in Richmond Hill, Queens, NY, and worked as a compassionate and devoted Home Health Aide for over 22 years. New York was her happy place, where she was surrounded by her nieces, nephews, and their children. She loved taking walks to the famous Little Guyana on Liberty Avenue. In 2014, Baba was baptized and embraced Christianity. Her faith remained strong, and she lived as a devout Christian, trusting in God’s plan with a joyful and prayerful heart. In 2022, as her health began to decline due to dementia, she moved to Florida to live with her daughter Nadira and son-in-law Prem, where she continued to be surrounded by immense love and care.

Baba was known for her boundless generosity and love—like a warm fire that everyone could gather around, she made others feel cared for, safe, and never alone. Her presence lit up any room, and her joyful, carefree energy was truly infectious. She was always dancing, full of light and laughter. Her favorite song, "Shake it Baby Shake It," will forever echo in our minds. Shake it, Baba—shake it up there, and have the entire Heavens dance with you!

Baba was a true traveler at heart—her feet carried her far and wide, as she never liked to remain in one place for too long. Over the years, she explored many corners of the world, visiting Guyana, Canada, Trinidad, Barbados, the United Kingdom, France, and the United States. Within the U.S., she spent time in New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. Her adventurous spirit and curiosity led her to embrace new cultures and experiences with open arms, always returning with stories, laughter, and love to share.

She was deeply loved and spent her last years surrounded by her daughter Nadira and son-in-law, Prem, grandchildren Asha and Sunetta, their husbands Dexter and Michael, and her great-grandchildren Ashanie, Avinash, Avanie, Angelina, Dhillon, Jesse, and Ezekiah.

Baba outlived her beloved third son, Deodat Singh, who passed away on September 10, 2021. She is survived by her remaining children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister, and many extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.

Our dear Grandma Baba, thank you for everything. Your love, your warmth, and your spirit will live on in us forever.
Om Shanti Om and Amen. Sleep in Peace Our Queen Baba

In this little bed I lie
With dreams of peace up in the sky.
No more pain and no more tears,
Only love through all the years.

Though I’ve gone, I’m not far,
I live in your hearts, no matter where you are.
Whisper softly, call my name,
I’ll be beside you just the same.

So do not weep, and do not fear,
For in your memories, I stay near.
Rest your hearts and dry your eyes
My soul is free and spirit flies.
