Sarojini Bissessar Obituary

Sarojini Ann Bissessar née Appiah was born on May 17 th , 1958 in Peter’s Hall, Guyana. She was the eldest of six children born to Stephen and Josephine Appiah. As a child, she had a deep love for reading, going to the movies, and enjoying a variety of fruits. She also took great joy in her matching outfits, reflecting her vibrant personality even at a young age. After attending Central High School, she began working and later got married. Years later, she welcomed her first child in September of 1980, Timothy. She further worked at Sugar Welfare Office in Kingston, Georgetown. It was there that she met a tall, dashing young man named, Robert Bissessar. The two were married on June10 th , 1988 and soon after immigrated to the United States where they began building their like together. After first moving to Florida, they later settled in Connecticut, where they welcomed their first baby girl in October of 1990, Joanne.

While living in Connecticut, they decided to move to New York, where she worked as TSA at JFK International Airport. In 1993, they moved back to Florida to join the rest of the Bissessar families in Winter Garden. In 1994, she began her career at Walt Disney World as housekeeper, also known as “mouse keeping.” She later transitioned to the warehouse as “mouse purchaser” properly known as Warehouse Coordinator. Through her sharp negotiating skills, she made a meaningful impact at Disney, saving the company money, while always, ensuring her warehouse was well stocked. She was admired and respected by her vendors and colleagues and she always looked out for her staff. Everything she did was grounded in genuine care. She never took anyone for granted and built relationships filled with respect, kindness, and love. Disney was a significant part of her life, where she dedicated 30 years of service before retiring. Her time at Disney brought many cherished family memories. During that time, she built lasting friendships with people who truly cared for her and loved her. Friends who taught her how to drive, friends she spent time with and shared many laughs with. The love and generosity she gave to others was returned to her through these deep and lasting bonds.

In December of 1996, our family was completed with the birth of Suzanne. In 1999, they achieved the American dream of purchasing their family home in Ocoee. As she continued to excel at Disney, she nurtured her love of roses, gardening and her orchid collection. She will always be remembered for the love she poured into her kitchen, her fried rice, her pastries: pine tart, cheese roll and patties, her desserts: ambrosia, custard and her black cake, rich and carefully prepared was a treasured tradition. In October of 2013, she became a grandmother for first time with the birth of Angela, followed by Alexandrea in January of 2020. She showered them with endless love, clothing and gifts. She fueled their love of music through singing nursey rhymes and their passion for fashion. Her fiery spirit and unmistakably blunt honesty were qualities that made her both memorable and respected. She spoke her mind with confidence, her bold personality could light up any room often bringing laughter, sometimes surprise but always authenticity. Her presence was powerful and unforgettable, a vibrant mix of courage, humor and heart. It was this very spirit that made her so deeply loved, and it will continue live on in the stories shared by all who knew her.
