Sarah Fragale Obituary

Sarah Ellen Ashcraft Fragale, born February 22, 1924, passed from this life on April 15, 2010. Born in Peoria, WV, the daughter of Charles and Mary Martha Carpenter Ashcraft, she married Peter J. Fragale on November 27, 1946. She is survived by her children, Anthony (Tony), Orlando, FL, Gary (Gig), Morgantown, WV, and Mary Martha (Orlando, FL), grandchildren David Fragale (Orlando, FL), Dean (Stephanie) Fragale, Amanda (Johnny) Seggie, and Cassandra Fragale, all of Morgantown, WV, and four great-grandchildren: Gavin and Isabella Fragale, Duke Seggie, and Jacoby Sampson. She is also survived by two sisters, Bertha Ashcraft of Clarksburg, WV, and Genevieve Staples of Shinnston, WV, and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Margaret and her brother Arthur, and her husband.

Known affectionately as "Susie" by her friends, "Suffy" by her family, and "Nunny Susie" by her grandchildren, she is best known in Clarksburg for her 26 years of service as crossing guard at St. Mary's Elementary and Notre Dame High Schools and as a meter maid for the City of Clarksburg. She moved to Orlando, FL, in December 1993, and following the death of her husband in 1994, began work as a paraprofessional working with exceptional education students at Edgewater High School for the next 8 years when she finally retired, three months short of her 80th birthday due to health problems. Known as "Grandma" to all her students and fellow staff, she touched many lives with genuine affection and belief in the abilities of her students. Quick with a smile, a hug, a word of encouragement and/or loving correction, she was always available to anyone who needed her to listen, to advise, to assist in any way she could. A woman of deep yet quiet faith, she was love in action.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 22, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. at Dobbs Funeral Home, 430 N. Kirkman Road, Orlando, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to http://www.rockpink.com/, a breast cancer awareness charity and/or Hospice of the Comforter, 480 W.
