Rina Chisholm Obituary

Rina Elizabeth Chisholm
September 29, 1949 – April 25, 2026

Rina Elizabeth Chisholm was born Rina Contreras in San Salvador, El Salvador, Central
America. She went to be with the Lord after a long illness borne with grace and courage,
surrounded by her loving family.
Rina determined early on that she wanted to be a dentist and graduated from the prestigious
Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara in Mexico. She went on to study English in Canada and
then to pursue a Master’s degree in Bristol, England, where she met Malcolm. They were
married in 1978 and went on to raise four sons: Kenneth, Neil, Mark, and Christopher.
After Kenneth and Neil were born, the family moved to New Jersey, where opportunities were
greater than in England. Rina devoted herself wholeheartedly to motherhood and to the intense
love of her sons. Later, the family moved to the Orlando area in Florida to enjoy a better climate
and different opportunities.
She also frequently brought the family back to El Salvador, where she built a number of
businesses: a coffee farm, an agricultural supply store, an egg farm, real estate, and financial
investments. She loved the countryside of El Salvador, and especially the town of Ilobasco.
Rina was a committed Christian, and how to serve the Lord was always at the front of her mind.
She funded the founding of two churches and supported many others. She was deeply
compassionate and helped countless people who had needs but few resources, and had a
particular concern for the poor.
Rina was very moral, straightforward, and open, but caring. Her adventurous life full of varied
experiences made her a very interesting person to interact with. She was very amiable and
personable, but not at all self-centered in any way.
Rina is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Malcolm, and their sons Kenneth, Neil,
Mark (married to Anastasia, with granddaughter Veronika), and Christopher.
