Marvil Perry Hawkins, IV, also known as Marv to his friends and Sonny to his family, age 82, a resident of Orlando, Florida, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026.
Born on October 18, 1943, in Lansing, Michigan, Sonny grew up to live a full and meaningful life marked by service, curiosity, and kindness. He graduated from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia, in 1961, and continued his education at Orlando Junior College and the University of Florida.
Sonny proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1964 to 1968, with assignments at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and Fort Dix, New Jersey.
Following his military service, he dedicated over 30 years working in the medical field as a technician in the Orlando area.
Known lovingly as “Sonny” to his family, he had a wide range of interests and passions. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding motorcycles and flying small airplanes. He was also a devoted dog lover who cared for many pets throughout his life. Sonny will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews as a kind, fun-loving uncle who could talk about almost any subject.
He was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension and a resident at Brookdale Senior Community in Orlando.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Marvil P. Hawkins III, and Lucile L. Hawkins; his brothers, Raymond Hawkins, Sr., and Leon Hawkins; and his niece, Deborah Hawkins.
He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Suzanna Hawkins, and Barbara Hawkins, as well as many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to the many friends, family members, and caregivers whose kindness and support meant so much throughout the years. We are especially grateful to Rusty Hazelrigg, Deacon, Episcopal Church of the Ascension, niece Donna Norris and spouse Richard Norris, nephews Eric Freire and David Norris, and niece Lauren Morava, for their unwavering compassion and presence during life’s most meaningful moments.
