Juliette “Julie” M. A. Smith, age 100, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2025, in Orlando, Florida.
Born on January 24, 1925, in Fall River, Massachusetts, Julie was the tenth of fourteen children of Calixte and Dorina (LaPointe) Monast. She attended school in Fall River before her family relocated to Westport.
Julie met the love of her life, Joseph “Joe” Taylor Smith, at the USO. The couple married on May 2, 1945, and built a loving home in Westport, where they raised their three children. Julie worked for many years in the garment industry and was a proud member of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers Union. In recognition of her dedication and service, she received the Silver Needle Award in 1995.
After retiring, Julie and Joe moved to Orlando in 1989. There, she became an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Women’s Guild at St. Andrew Catholic Church, and was a founding member of the church’s Senior Citizens group. Her faith, her community, and her family were the foundations of a life well lived.
Julie is survived by her daughter, Carol Morgan of Orlando, and her son, Richard Smith of Wendell, NC; her grandchildren Donna, Susan, Julie Jo, Rhonda, Ron Jr., Billy, Dorina, Mara, Biram, and Jeremy; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and seventeen great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Joe, her son Ronald, her parents, and all of her siblings.
In recent years, Julie had one heartfelt goal: to live to be 100. In January, surrounded by family, she joyfully celebrated that milestone with a dinner at Olive Garden—a celebration planned since her 99th birthday.
A viewing and receiving of friends and family will be held at Dobb’s Funeral Home at 9:00 a.m. on May 22, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 801 Hasting Street, Orlando. Julie will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the charity of your choice in Julie’s memory.
