Joyce Elizabeth Flynn, 76 passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on October 8.
She was born on September 29, 1949, in Danbury, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Clinton and Frances Thompson. Joyce loved her family and her husband dearly and was always there for them. After raising her children, she went back to school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse at Henry Abbott Tech—an accomplishment that spoke to her strength and dedication. She worked as a LPN for 20 years, caring for others with compassion and kindness.
Joyce was known for her quick wit, silly songs, and her incredible memory—she never missed a birthday call, always singing in her unmistakable way. She loved her family deeply and found joy in the simple things: cooking family meals, clipping coupons, finding treasures at thrift shops, doing laundry (her favorite chore), and spending time with her best friend & husband of 54 years. Her home was always filled with cats, laughter, and her frog collection.
One of her greatest joys came just before her passing, as she was able to travel with her husband to Iowa to meet her new great-grandson, Archer Howe. She sang to him and held him close, creating a memory her family will treasure forever.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Patrick Flynn; her children, Teresa Knipe, Megan Flynn, and Shannon Flynn; and her grandchildren, Robert Knipe, Allison Howe, Sierra Sullivan, Dominick Sorbara, Daniel Antinura, and Rocco Antinura. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Kelly Sorbara and her sister-in-law Marilyn Thompson. Joyce also leaves behind her brother, Dennis Thompson, her nieces and her dog Lulu. Her family members and friends will miss her dearly.
In keeping with Joyce’s wishes, no services will be held. Her family encourages everyone to honor her memory by sharing a laugh, singing a silly song, or calling someone you love—just like she always did.
