Helen Barrington Obituary

Helen Patricia Cairns Barrington, lovingly known to some friends and family members as
“Helen” and others as “Patsy”, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, at the age of 92. With
her daughter at her side, Helen entered the presence of her Savior, leaving behind a legacy of
faith, love, and service. We know she was welcomed to Heaven promptly by Jesus, her
parents, and four siblings.
Helen was born in Fort Pierce, Florida to the late Adele Beatrice Frere and
James Daniel Cairns. She was the second of five children. Helen was preceded in death by
older sister Joan Marie and three younger siblings James Daniel Jr., Mary Elizabeth, and
Michael Joseph. In her early 20s, Helen moved to Rochester, New York and lived there
for almost 20 years before moving to South Carolina and then returning to Florida.
Helen was known for her faithfulness to the Catholic Church and the Blessed Mary, moral
fortitude, life of service, green eyes and a warm smile that could light up a room. In her early
adulthood, she enjoyed photography and was employed at Eastman Kodak Company. She
had a lifetime love of travel and visited Greece, Panama, Hawaii, and Alaska. As a young
woman, she was a member of the Legion of Mary and traveled with the group several times;
her most memorable part of one trip was the visit to Rome. She was especially fond of
Letchworth Park in New York State.
She was not a fan of liver and onions or peas. She loved pork chops and rice smothered in
gravy, and during her time at a long-term care facility, she could be bribed with chocolate, tuna
fish subs, Steak ‘n Shake cheeseburgers, and Chik-fil-A’s macaroni and cheese. She loved two
of her three grand-cats. Although she faced health challenges starting in her late 80s, her mind
remained strong until the end.
Helen was a dedicated church member at Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Orlando, Florida
and later at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Melbourne, Florida. She served the Church as a
lector and minister to the sick during her time at the parishes. Her compassion and kind
manner touched the lives of countless family members, friends, neighbors, coworkers.
She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Adele Barrington (Brian Murphy); many loving cousins;
and nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday July 23, at Dobbs Funeral Home in Orlando, from 6:00 to
8:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Altamonte
Springs at 10:00 a.m. on Friday July 24. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in
Gotha at 12:30 p.m.
