Gloria Munroe Obituary
MUNROE, Gloria P. (Aunt G) 96, of Orlando went to be with her Savior and Lord, Jesus
Christ, on Thursday morning, June 5, 2025, following an extended period living with
Sarcoidosis, Diabetes and Dementia. She was born in Hampstead, St. Mary, Jamaica,
West Indies, the daughter of the late Albert and Elsie Gatchair (McDougall). In 1988 she
moved to Central Florida from Kingston, Jamaica after a full working life as Cashier,
Accounting Clerk, Office Manager and Assistant Manager for various firms.
Gloria’s commitment to service however, extended beyond her career. She was a
dedicated member of the St. John’s Ambulance Brigade from 1958 to 1987, earning the
distinguished rank of Officer Sister in 1973—the first Jamaican woman to do so without
first holding the Serving Sister title. She was honored with the Prime Minister’s Award
Medal for 21 years of service. During her tenure with St. John’s, she completed a
correspondence course in Practical Nursing through the Dallas School of Practical
Nursing in the U.S.
In 1970, Gloria joined the Mechanics Order as a member of the Loyal Hibbert Court of
Esther Chapter #1. She rose through the ranks and became Matron of the Chapter in
1975 and Past Illustrative Matron in 1976. Gloria actively served on various committees
and was awarded the Seiveright Shield for being the Most Outstanding Mechanic on
Mechanics Day, September 10, 1978. Her numerous honors include:

In 1997, she was recognized as one of three women honored for outstanding
contributions to District Grand Lodge #2 during its Jubilee Celebration. She was
honored as one of three distinguished recipients of a Proclamation from the Grand
Council during the inaugural Sisters’ Day Celebration on April 12, 2025, recognizing her
exemplary contributions to the fraternity.
A devout Roman Catholic throughout her life, and as a member of St. Andrews Catholic
Church, Gloria lived by the principles of kindness, service, and faith. She was a
testimony for Jesus to every person she came in contact with, showing the depth of her
love and concern for others. Gloria has now joined her parents; sisters, Blossom (Faye)
Mahoney and Marlene Seaton; brothers, Sonny Gatchair, Edward Gatchair and Rudolph
McDougall; and son, Harry Munroe in heaven to dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
She leaves behind to carry on the Lord’s service her sister, Nora (Peaches) Reckord, five
children; daughters, Sandra Scott of Orlando, Karen (Lionel) Williams of Winter Garden,

Alelia Munroe of Tavares; sons, Barrington Preston of Kingston, Jamaica, and Courtney
(Carmel) Munroe of Orlando; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-
great grandchildren, and several nieces, grand nieces, great grand nieces, great-great
grand nieces and nephews, grand nephews, great grand nephews and great-great-
grand nephews.
Her family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation and thanks to Marie
Deshommes and the other Home Health staff at Senior Nannies, Orlando; and In lieu of
flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held June 21, 2025, 9:30 AM at St. Andrews Catholic
Church, 801 N Hastings Street, Orlando, FL. Interment will be private. Professional
Services with a Viewing provided by Dobbs Funeral Home, 430 N. Kirkman Rd.
