Mr. Ernest Carlton Jackson, age 86, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026, in Orlando, Florida. Born on October 18, 1939, in Ocala, Florida, Ernest lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to his family, community, and passions.
Ernest was educated at Crooms Academy in Sanford, Florida, and later attended South Carolina State University, where he played football. His love for sports remained a lifelong passion. In 1963, he began a distinguished career with the Orlando Recreation Department, where he worked tirelessly to enrich the lives of others through community programs and initiatives. After more than three decades of service, Ernest retired in 1994, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and care for his community.
On June 3, 1959, Ernest married Gladys Lumpkin, the love of his life. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership until her passing in June 2003. Together they built a family filled with love and cherished memories.
Ernest is survived by his children: Michele Combs, Vanessa Welch, Erneta Sapp (Wilbur) and Ernest Jones. He also leaves behind his brothers Daniel Jackson, Paul Jackson (Tina), and Larry Simmons (Curtisene); his sister Juliet Johnson (Nate); grandchildren Equanda Washington (Dwayne), Erin Jones (Nick), Damien Combs, Joshua Combs (Danika), Michael Welch (Erica), Zahra Welch, and Aurelius Welch; as well as an incredible legacy of forty combine grand and great grandchildren. He will also be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Gladys Jackson; son; Erine Jones, brothers Ed Jackson, James Jackson, and David Jackson; and sisters Anette Butler and Carrie Robinson.
Ernest had a zest for life that was evident to all who knew him. He loved fishing and staying active through sports. Known for his sweet tooth and ever-present smile, Ernest had a kind heart that touched everyone he met. Generous to all he encountered and never meeting a stranger, he left an indelible mark on those around him.
May the memory of Mr. Ernest Carlton Jackson bring comfort to all who knew him as they celebrate the remarkable life he lived. A Memorial Service will be held on May 2, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 02:00 PM at Dobbs Funeral Home 430 N. Kirkman Rd
