Born in Melville, Wakenaam, Guyana (Essequibo Islands) to father Teerat Persaud & mother
Olive Jasodra Syjune.
He is one of eight brothers with two sisters. He leaves behind his legacy of peace and kindness
to all he has encountered.
At a young age of 10 Years old he ventured into the shipping industry of Guyana. He worked
alongside his brother Cecil Persaud, and other boat owners or captains. He sailed the rivers
night and day. He sailed in smooth or rough seas from port to port. He became well known and
respected for his knowledge of the hazards and navigation skills of the Essequibo and
Demerara Rivers. He became such a river specialist that he earned the nickname “Captain” or
“Happy Jack” for his smile.
On Sept 24 th , 1978 he relocated to America. He called NYC his home for many years. He lived
primarily in the Bronx borough. He worked as an auto parts associate, a lumber associate, and
a hardware store associate. He enjoyed his time off with all his family. He really enjoyed
spending time with his nephews and nieces. He would always take them to the store for
whatever treats and toys we wanted. He enjoyed trips to the park behind his home with
everyone.
He retired and moved to Sanford Florida around 2000 where he and his mom called home. He
earned several other nicknames throughout the years of his life. Each name was given by those
close to him in an endearing way. Some of them were “James Bond 007”, “Naught Naught
Seven”, “Chaach”, “Jimmy”, or “Planes, Trains, & Automobiles”. He loved to joke and play. But
most of all he loved to listen to his music and dance. We will all miss him. His ship has docked
for the last time and his voyage here amongst us is finally over. Please join us in his farewell.
