Candido Toussaint Obituary

Obituary for Candido “Candy” Ignacio Toussaint
October 3, 1959 – September 3, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Candido “Candy” Ignacio Toussaint, also lovingly known as “El Dulce Amargo,” who departed this life on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at the age of 65.

Born on October 3, 1959, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Candy was the youngest of six children and the heart of his family. He was the son of Rev. Ignacio Toussaint and Josefa Carmela Santana, and the beloved brother of Ignacio Toussaint Jr., Rosa “Charo” Toussaint Ortiz, Gorgonia “Gogui” Gaston, Argentina Toussaint (late), and Milagros Toussaint Ortiz.

Candy spent his early childhood in Santo Domingo before his family moved to Puerto Rico in the early 1970s. Even as a young boy, he was known for his joyful spirit, quick wit, and deep love for music. By 1979, Candy made his way to Boston, Massachusetts, where he worked as a machinist and began raising a family. In 1997, he moved to Orlando, Florida, where he built a loving home and became known in the community for his compassionate nature, culinary and mechanical skills, and unmistakable charisma.

He was a man who wore many hats: a dedicated father, a doting grandfather, a passionate cook, and the life of every party. If Candy was around, joy was inevitable. Whether waking his family in the middle of the night to share fried chicken ("murlos") and plantains ("tostones"), or filling the home with the sounds of Bachata and Merengue, Candy made sure every moment was unforgettable. One of the fondest memories his family shares is the time they unplugged his beloved stereo as a prank—only for him to discover it the next morning, laugh along, and turn the music right back on. That was Candy—always embracing life with a smile and a rhythm in his step.

Those who knew him will always remember how he’d grab your arm mid-walk just to pull you into a dance, how his laughter filled the room, and how he made everyone feel like family.

Candido now joins his father, Rev. Ignacio Toussaint, and his sister Argentina in eternal rest. He is survived by his loving mother, Josefa Carmela Santana, his siblings Ignacio Jr., Rosa, Gorgonia, and Milagros, his cherished daughters Madeline Vega, Claribel Michel, and Ruby Toussaint, and his eight adored grandchildren.

Candy was a man of deep love, unwavering dedication, and pure joy. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing him. Though he is no longer with us in body, the music, laughter, and love he brought into our lives will echo through the generations.

May you rest well, Candido “El Dulce Amargo” Toussaint—the Archangel.
You were greatly loved. You will be greatly missed.
Rest in Peace.

His Favorite Bible script:

Génesis 3:24

24 Echó, pues, fuera al hombre, y puso al oriente del huerto de Edén querubines, y una espada encendida que se revolvía por todos lados, para guardar el camino del árbol de la vida.

Salmo 91:

El que habita al abrigo del Altísimo

Morará bajo la sombra del Omnipotente.

 Diré yo a Jehová: Esperanza mía, y castillo mío;

Mi Dios, en quien confiaré.

Él te librará del lazo del cazador,

De la peste destructora.

Con sus plumas te cubrirá,

Y debajo de sus alas estarás seguro;

Caerán a tu lado mil,

Y diez mil a tu diestra;

No te sobrevendrá mal,

Sobre el león y el áspid pisarás;

Por cuanto en mí ha puesto su amor, yo también lo libraré;

Me invocará, y yo le responderé;

Con él estaré yo en la angustia;

Lo libraré y le glorificaré.

Lo saciaré de larga vida,

Y le mostraré mi salvación.
